How memes have shaped the society In his book,"The selfish gene" British biologist,Richard Dawkins coined the word "meme" from Greek "mimeme" to mean imitated thing.According to Dawkins therefore a meme is a unit of cultural transmission.The definition would later change giving rise to the modern which identifies a meme as an idea that spreads from one person to another virally via the internet.
