How memes have shaped the society

In his book,"The selfish gene" British biologist,Richard Dawkins coined the word "meme" from Greek "mimeme" to mean imitated thing.According to Dawkins therefore a meme is a unit of cultural transmission.The definition would later change giving rise to the modern which identifies a meme as an idea that spreads from one person to another virally via the internet.

The most common memes contain photos or videos(GIFS) of people,animals or places containing  funny captions either at the top or bottom.These are normally jokes relatable to a particular society or a particular group within a society.Memes form a huge part of our online experience and have even influenced our conversations in that they are derived from the memes we see online.Memes have also influenced fashion as most trends are thanks to the memes circulating online.

Some politicians have also used memes for their campaigns these include the likes of U.S president Trump and also former New York City mayor,Mike Bloomberg who being a candidate in the recent Democratic presidential primaries used memes for his campaign.

Memes are also used by companies to market their brands.Gucci for example,a luxury fashion brand uses memes to market their products.
